Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas is officially back from a major dry dock, and if you’re booked on this ship soon — or casually “researching” cruises at 11 p.m. like the rest of us — there are some updates worth knowing.
According to Cruise Industry News, Harmony of the Seas completed a five-week refurbishment at the Navantia Shipyard in Cádiz, Spain. The Oasis-class ship sailed from the shipyard earlier this week and is scheduled to return to revenue service on May 21, 2026.
This dry dock brought some noticeable changes, including new dining options, a new bar, more staterooms, and a refreshed exterior.
And because we last sailed on Harmony of the Seas in 2024, I definitely have some thoughts.

Harmony of the Seas
But first, a little about this cruise ship! Harmony of the Seas is one of Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class ships, and she first set sail in May 2016. At the time, Harmony was the largest cruise ship in the world, and she still feels very much like a floating city at sea.
The ship carries about 5,479 guests at double occupancy, with room for around 6,780 guests at maximum capacity, plus roughly 2,300 crew members. So yes, she is a big ship — but that size also means there is a lot to do onboard.
Harmony of the Seas is known for Royal Caribbean’s neighborhood-style layout, including Central Park, the Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, and the AquaTheater. You’ll also find waterslides, plenty of dining options, big entertainment, family-friendly activities, and those “how is this even on a cruise ship?” features Royal Caribbean does so well.
Quick Answer: What are the Harmony of the Seas Updates?
Harmony of the Seas received several new and refreshed features, including:
The Lime & Coconut, Royal Caribbean’s tropical-themed pool bar
El Loco Fresh, a complimentary Mexican dining option
Samba Grill, a Brazilian-style steakhouse
Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade
More than 100 additional staterooms
Casino expansion – now the largest in the fleet
New panoramic suites over the bridge
A refreshed exterior look with updated ship livery and refreshed pool deck
So, yes — this is more than a little “new carpet and fresh paint” situation.

Why This Matters If You’re Sailing Soon
Dry docks can feel a little mysterious if you’re new to cruising. They sound dramatic, but they’re actually pretty normal. Cruise ships periodically go out of service for maintenance, updates, repairs, and sometimes bigger makeovers. This period of service varies by cruise line, but usually occurs every 5 years.
In Harmony’s case, this was a pretty substantial refresh. New venues can make a big difference in how crowded certain areas feel, where families grab quick meals, and how many extra-fee options are available onboard.
For example, El Loco Fresh is especially nice for families because it offers another casual, complimentary dining option when everyone is hungry right now, and nobody wants to sit through a long meal.
That alone can be a cruise-day win.
New Dining and Bar Options
Harmony is getting several new dining venues. El Loco Fresh has been added for complimentary Mexican meals. Samba Grill, a Brazilian-style steakhouse, and Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade, which will take over the former Sabor location in the Boardwalk neighborhood, will both be at an extra charge.

I’m personally very happy to see El Loco Fresh added because it is one of my favorite quick-lunch spots on Royal Caribbean. It’s casual, easy, and the food is excellent — which is exactly what you want when everyone is hungry, someone is wet from the pool, and nobody wants to make a big production out of lunch. I certainly don’t mind the Wind Jammer buffet, but it’s nice to have other complimentary options.

Brian is especially excited about Playmakers being added because, well, a million TVs all blasting sporting events? He’s in heaven.
For families or groups, these kinds of additions matter. More casual food and more places to hang out can make the ship feel easier to navigate, especially on sea days when everyone has a different idea of “relaxing.”

Additional Bar Options on Harmony of the Seas
One of the biggest Harmony of the Seas updates in 2026 is the addition of The Lime & Coconut, a tropical-themed pool bar that has become a popular feature on other Royal Caribbean ships, and the Pesky Parrot. Lime & Coconut will be up on the pool deck, and Pesky Parrot will be squaking in the Royal Promenade on deck 6.
I’m really glad to see the Bionic Bar head out and the space allocated to a much livelier one. If you have been on a ship with a Pesky Parrot, you’re missing out. There is a mechanical Parrot, named Drunk Brian, that we got a big kick out of when we sailed on Utopia of the Seas.

As mentioned above, Playmaker’s also has a very active bar with a full service menu and a Bloody Mary that we really enjoy! 🙂
Harmony of the Seas Super Bowl Memory
Our last sailing on Harmony of the Seas was in 2024. We actually watched our Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl on the big screen in the AquaTheater.
It was such a fun experience — and also a funny reminder that cruising outside the U.S. can make familiar events feel completely different.
Fun fact: I guess it should have been obvious, but I was surprised not to see all of the famous Super Bowl commercials and the half-time show. It makes sense, as they are U.S. advertisers, but that is something that I always look forward to, especially all those years when our Chiefs weren’t in the game.
It was quite an experience. Watching our hometown team come back in overtime for the win… on a cruise ship was thrilling! Two loves combined. (And…as a Swiftie, I loved the Travis and Taylor moments 🥰)
I can definitely see why adding Playmakers will be a big deal for sports fans. Cruise ships usually have a few places to catch a game, but Playmakers makes it much easier to build part of your day around sports, snacks, and casual drinks without feeling like you’re missing out on the rest of the ship.

More Staterooms Were Added- Harmony of the Seas Updates
The dry dock also added more than 100 staterooms, including new panoramic suites over the bridge and inside cabins in space that was previously used as a conference center. Those panoramic suites are really something and have also been added to other Royal Caribbean ships, across several classes.
Harmony of the Seas already holds a lot of people. When new cabins are added, that space has to come from somewhere. Sometimes that means other venues are removed, reduced in size, or reworked to accommodate more passengers. And I suppose I won’t miss that conference room, which was part of the space reallocation.
From a business perspective, I understand it. Royal Caribbean is a for-profit company, and clearly, they are very good at making money. More cabins mean more guests, and more guests mean more onboard spending.
speaking of spending….
Largest Casino in the Fleet
Yep, you read that correctly. Royal Caribbean also expanded the casino onboard Harmony of the Seas to make it the largest casino in its fleet. This is big news for all those cruisers who hope to hit it big on their cruise and enjoy the casino comps offered. Essentially, the Crown Lounge got kicked upstairs by the teen zone, and the former Crown Lounge area is now included in the casino space.
Anything I Don’t Like?
As a loyal Royal cruiser, I think the move of the Crown Lounge is my one disappointment. Brian and I spend many hours each morning in the lounge getting work done, and I REALLY don’t like the new location. I know that the Teen Disco won’t be operating when we’re working in the lounge, but it just doesn’t seem like a good fit. I’m booked on Harmony within the next year, so I’ll let you know after I’ve experienced the lounge “in” the teen area. 🤦🏻♀️
Where Will Harmony of the Seas Sail After Dry Dock?
Harmony of the Seas is scheduled to resume revenue service on May 21, 2026. The ship will begin with a short cruise from Barcelona to France and Spain, then embark on a series of weeklong Western Mediterranean sailings.
During the spring season, Harmony is expected to visit ports in Spain, France, and Italy, including Palma de Mallorca, Marseille, La Spezia, Civitavecchia, and Naples. Later, the ship returns to North America, with two- to seven-night Caribbean and Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral beginning in August.
That Port Canaveral piece is especially helpful for families because it pairs well with an Orlando trip. Port Canaveral is ALWAYS one of the busiest cruise ports, but they have a great system. The Orlando airport is 45 minutes away, but there are several options to get passengers to the ships.

Worrier’s Guide: Should You Be Concerned About Sailing After Dry Dock?
Whenever a ship has a major refresh, I like to keep an eye on the first few sailings after dry dock. Not because I expect issues — but because new venues, new cabins, and refreshed spaces sometimes need a little settling-in period. I’ve been cruising with Royal Caribbean for over 20 years. In my experience, within two weeks, these new venues will seem like they’ve always been there and will run smoothly.
Before booking, I’d review:
Recent cruiser reviews after the May 2026 return
Updated deck plans
Photos or videos of the new venues
Cabin reviews for newly added rooms
Any changes to specialty dining pricing or packages
This is especially true if you’re a planner, a worrier, or someone who wants to know where the nearest coffee or cocktail spot is.
No judgment. These are important cruise details. However, please keep in mind that some people only post reviews when they have a complaint. Always take negativity with a grain of salt. I would also encourage you, on Harmony or any ship, to address any issues onboard. In my experience, the staff will genuinely try to resolve the problem. Don’t wait until you get home when a quick solution might have been possible.
Final Thoughts on Harmony of the Seas Updates 2026
Harmony of the Seas was already a big, family-friendly ship with plenty to do, and this dry dock adds even more dining, bar, and cabin options to the mix. Most cruisers will probably just notice that the ship feels refreshed and offers more onboard options.
For families, I think adding El Loco Fresh is one of the most practical upgrades. It’s quick, easy, and genuinely good — which is exactly what I want from a casual cruise lunch.
For adults, sports fans, and anyone traveling with a Brian-type personality, Playmakers is a fun addition. Sometimes you just need a casual place to grab a drink, watch a game, and let a million TVs do their thing. And, Lime and Coconut has proven to be a big hit and a welcome addition to other Royal Caribbean ships.
I’m excited to check out the new 2026 Harmony of the Seas updates and already have a sailing booked!
