The Big Splurge

While the following few items are an investment, they will stand the test of time.

Luggage – Every traveler needs luggage, of course.  Don’t fall into the trap of the plain black and boring bag.  Take the opportunity to tune into your gift recipients personality with some durable, yet fun, hard-sided luggage.

Canon G7x Mark II – Another splurge for any traveler is a good camera. While smartphones today have excellent quality there are just some shots that just can’t compare to a high-quality camera and this one is DSLR quality in a pocket size.

Cashmere Wrap – My husband got a similar one for me two years ago and I still love it and take it everywhere. I use it as a blanket on the plane, a wrap with dresses on a cruise and roll it up and keep it in my purse/tote for use in chilly restaurants. It’s so soft, multi-purpose and fabulous.  I personally love the grey because I think it goes with everything!

Bose Wireless Headphones – One of my personal favorite travel items while traveling is my wireless Bose Headphones. Not only is the sound quality exceptional but it is great for air pressure. I’m not sure of the science behind it but I really struggle with ear pain while flying and these headphones are a huge help and the noise-canceling component is priceless on a “chatty” flight. If you have time, here is an excellent and extensive review of Bluetooth headphones.

Kindle PaperWhite E-reader – This is such a space saver for the vacation reader. I like to use my online library account or stock up on Kindle books before vacation. I already have an iPad mini, so I haven’t splurged on another e-reader but I am a little jealous that the PaperWhite is readable in sunlight fits as that would fit well with my beach obsession.

Great gifts for the Traveler – Thoughtful Gifts: approx. $20-$50

Tech Case – This was a purchase I made last year for my husband who travels regularly for work. He was constantly digging in his bag for various chargers during his flights or during his hotel stays. Nearly a year later, he still takes it on every trip. I love a product that gets used!

HydroFlask– As I’ve mentioned in several posts, I do not travel anywhere (including the car-rider line) without my HydroFlask. It keeps my water cold for HOURS.

Packing Cubes – Tested over multiple trips I am a packing cube supporter. It is so easy to stay organized and honestly, I’m always worried that my bag will get searched one day and an undergarment will come falling out. Not with packing cubes. They come in so many colors is easy for each member of the family to have their own, too!

Wander Wet Bags – These bags are so adorable.  I’m a little obsessed. Check out all of their beach-loving designs and available in three sizes.  So many uses beyond swimsuits!  I have to say, the Wander Wet Bag “Soul Mates” is on my Christmas List this year.   There are less expensive options for Swim Suit bags on Amazon but I will be going for the Wander Wet Bag this year. They are a great small company.

Passport Cover – I love a beautiful passport cover and there are so many to choose from.

Great gifts for the Traveler – Stocking Stuffers – Under $25

RFID Blocking Cards – You can see a news update without hearing about cyber hacks and personal information getting stolen. Do what you can to protect yourself with these easy to use folios for each of your credit cards, identification or passports or go for a full wallet.

USB Hub – If you’ve read my cruise cabin prep kit blog you’ll know this is another travel favorite. Everyone has USB charged items – phones, cameras, laptops, tablets, etc. Don’t fight over the outlet. This stocking stuffer can save you time and a few arguments.

Journal – A beautiful travel journal is a lovely gift for any wanderlust friend or family member. I love this one.  The first entry should be from you wishing them a lifetime of adventure. In the front of my journal, I have my travel wish list.

Luggage Scale – Ok, a luggage scale is admittedly not a flashy gift but it could certainly save the recipient a big chunk of change. Overweight baggage fees are NOT how I want to spend my travel budget.

Boca Clips – These little gems are super functional but not only that, they are adorable! I love my flip flop clips, my daughter has the dolphins and my husband….well, his are beer bottles, obviously. 😉 They are also perfect for cruises because it always seems to be windy on the pool deck.

Tech Candy Dry Spell – This little guy is a beach/water must-have.  It keeps your cell phone dry and it floats! It also comes in several colors and sizes to fit different phones. Need more beach-friendly ideas, check out this post.
