Pre-Cruise Hotel in Nassau – British Colonial Hilton

Cruises are now sailing from Nassau, so if you are looking for a pre-cruise hotel in Nassau, the British Colonial Hilton may be right for you. It’s been more than 15 months since cruises were active, and many of us are eager to hop on board as soon as possible!

In June 2021, Royal Caribbean started sailing Adventure of the Seas from Nassau, Bahamas. I was excited to be on the first sailing from this new port. If you are also booked on Adventure, get the preparation details here.

In this post, I will share important information to help you decide whether your pre-cruise hotel in Nassau should be the British Colonial Hilton.

Avid cruisers who frequent Nassau during port days may be very familiar with this hotel. The British Colonial Hilton has been a popular venue for day passes for many years.  Cruisers can purchase a pass and enjoy the beach, pool, and other wonderful hotel amenities during their cruise port visit to Nassau.  This familiarity with the hotel may make it the perfect choice for your pre-cruise hotel stay.

Bonus! Royal Caribbean is currently using the hotel as its cruise check-in location.  So convenient! More on this later in the post.

Pricey but in line with other resort hotels.

The base rate for the two twin-bed option was $250 a night. I used points to secure the booking using one of my favorite travel cards. While this card carries an annual fee, the benefits and bonus offer far outweigh it. I highly recommend this card to anyone who loves to travel and can pay the full balance each month. You can learn more about this card and use my referral link for bonus points!

*I use this card regularly for travel rewards; however, I am NOT a financial professional, and this should not be considered financial advice.

British Colonial Hilton Amenities

Often booked by cruise ships as a day-pass resort option in Nassau, the British Colonial Hilton offers many amenities. Hotel guests can enjoy a grand outdoor area featuring a large pool, bar, beach access, and fitness center. Inside, the hotel offers a gift shop and a restaurant/bar area with indoor and outdoor seating options.

The room was well-appointed with a coffee maker and mini-fridge. The bathroom was a good size, and everything was nice and clean. This is also one of the few hotel options that offer a room with two twin beds, so if you are cruising with a friend, like I was, this can be a great option to share a room and save on expenses. I can’t say much for the view from our particular room, but sometimes that is the luck of the draw with hotel rooms, and I didn’t request or pay for an ocean-view room since we were just there for one night. Check out my Adventure of the Seas highlight on Instagram to see the view from my room.

Convenience and Location for Cruisers

As a pre-cruise hotel, the location is hard to beat. From the hotel beach area, you can enjoy views of your cruise ship waiting to greet you the next day! While the port is under construction, Royal Caribbean has partnered with the British Colonial Hilton, and the cruise check-in is taking place at the hotel! What could be more convenient than that? Once your luggage is dropped off at the luggage check-in and your boarding information is ready, a shuttle will take you to the cruise pier. Even on the first sailing, I thought this process went smoothly and efficiently.

Tip: Don’t forget to download the Royal Caribbean App ahead of time. You can use the app to present your set sail pass at check-in.

Transportation from Lynden Pindling Intl. Airport

The taxi from the airport to the hotel was $27.  This amount may vary due to traffic, time of day, number of occupants, etc. Just in case, I had $50 in cash. I also added a little more tip than my usual, given that the islands have endured extreme financial hardship during the pandemic and the lack of tourism in their area. Transportation from the hotel to the pier is currently being provided by Royal Caribbean for their Adventure of the Seas sailings.  The plans for the new port look great, and I look forward to seeing it in the future.
