Looking for a Great Dining Option in San Juan?

If you are in the Carolina area of San Juan, Puerto Rico, you will want to stop by Platos Restaurant & Bar.  Great food and atmosphere!

We recently sailed to the Southern Caribbean on Royal Carribean’s Jewel of the Seas out of San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Following our rule of flying in a day early, we arrived in San Juan, about 3:30 p.m. the day before our cruise.  We checked into the beautiful InterContinental San Juan Hotel and were ready to explore!

Moments after arriving in our room, our luggage was delivered by a bellman named Omar.  He was so welcoming that we decided to ask him for a Happy Hour/Dinner recommendation within walking distance of the hotel.Platos Restaurant & Bar Menu

Platos Restaurant & Bar

Omar highly recommended Platos Restaurant & Bar, located a few blocks from the hotel, for its great service, authentic cuisine and friendly atmosphere. For your reference, you walk out of the hotel and turn left.  Platos will be down a few blocks and also on your left.

Not that I didn’t immediately trust Omar, but you all know I did a quick little check on Trip Advisor. 😉 Platos Restaurant & Bar had excellent reviews.

He definitely pointed us in the right direction.  It was still early and we wanted to have some time to explore more of the area so we grabbed a drink and an appetizer.

We tried the skirt steak empanadas and it was delicious. Platos Restaurant & Bar Empanadas

The flavor was incredible and we were so excited to try empanadas for the first time!  How is that possible?  We had never tried empanadas before!  I know I’m pretty conservative when it comes to food but I have been missing out!

Of course, they had to be accompanied by a mojito which was equally as yummy. Platos Restaurant & Bar is also known for their Sangria options as well so give one a try if you stop by.

Our server told us that they would be hosting live music but not for a couple more hours.  One of our favorite things to do is to listen to live music and we really considered just hanging out for the next couple of hours.  But…we had more exploring to do so we opted to save that for next time. Platos Restaurant & Bar really has everything covered for your pre-cruise evening in San Juan.

Appetizer and two drinks – approx. $30

How do you spend your pre-cruise evening?  Do you try and soak in a bit of local goodness, too?
