More bad news for the cruise industry as Carnival cancels sailings through May 11, 2020. No one is excited to hear or share this information but there are details that you need to know if you have an upcoming Carnival Cruise.
Carnival is one of ten cruise line brands owned by the world’s largest cruise ship operator, the American-British Carnival Corporation. It has 26 vessels and is the largest fleet in the Carnival group. This latest update is sure to impact thousands.
The cruise line announced on March 30th that Carnival will cancel all sailings through May 11th. While this is not great news for us as cruisers, it’s incredibly bad news for Carnival and other brands in the cruise industry.
Frankly, the economic toll of this pandemic could be catastrophic to the industry (and many others). But, let’s try not to focus on that possibility because I know we all want to support our beloved cruise companies and get cruising again soon. If you have an upcoming cruise booked on Carnival you have two options which are actually quite generous.
For Carnival Cruise Sailings of 6 nights or more
Option 1: Enhanced Value – Cruisers booked May 11th or prior have the option to choose a future cruise credit PLUS onboard credit.
- 100% Future Cruise Credit based on the amount you paid for the canceled cruise
- Onboard Credit – Additionally, if you book your next cruise by 12/31/2020 for any sailing prior to 12/31/2022 you’ll receive $600 onboard credit per stateroom.
OR
Option 2: Refund – Guests may elect to receive a full refund for their cruise purchase price.
For Carnival Cruise Sailings of 5 nights of Less
Option 1: Enhanced Value
- 100% Future Cruise Credit based on the amount you paid for the canceled cruise
- Onboard Credit – Additionally, if you book your next cruise by 12/31/2020 for any sailing prior to 12/31/2022 you’ll receive $300 onboard credit per stateroom.
OR
Options 2: Refund – Guests may elect to receive a full refund for their cruise purchase price.
One Carnival ship, The Carnival Radiance will have a few additional cancellations which include Carnival Radiance April 29, May 9, May 21, May 30, June 11, but the same cancellation options apply.
Carnival Corporation also notes in its statement that all pre-cruise purchases such as Wifi, drink packages, etc. as well as port fees and taxes will be automatically refunded to your original form of payment.
How to declare your cancellation preference
After the disappointment of cruise cancellation, no one wants to sit on hold for an hour so Carnival has made it very easy for its customer. They have developed an online form where you can declare your preference quickly and easily. You can access the form here and will need the following information to complete the form
- Booking Number
- Sail Date
- Ship Name
- Guest Name
- Phone
Please note: Information involving industry decisions regarding the COVID-19 Global Pandemic are constantly evolving. While every attempt was made to provide the reader of this post with accurate information, before making any cruising decision please contact review the specific cruise line web site or your travel agent.
I know that we all wish we weren’t in this situation. It’s truly something I personally never could have imagined happening but I know that we will all get through this and see beautiful ocean sunsets in our future. Although it’s never easy to have your plans canceled I do think that the cruise lines are being very generous in their compensation and showing how much they value their loyal cruisers.
